Godaddy Domain Setup

This tutorial will guide you on how to properly set up your domain on GoDaddy.

Want us to do it for you? Please scroll to the end of this tutorial and complete the form to get started.

*You may find your registrar’s support team asking for an “IP Address” to attach the domain name. We use a CNAME record to attach domain names because using IP Addresses means a system’s servers must remain the same and ours do not and flux with incoming traffic and other updates. To ensure domain names always work, please use a CNAME to attach the domain to your site.

*If you have a custom email, this process will likely disconnect the email. Please be sure to check with your registrar to ensure it continues to work after this update.

Step 1: Log in to your GoDaddy Account

Step 2: Click on My Products

Click on your name in the top right corner, from the drop-down menu, select “My Products”. Here, you will find a grid list of the domains you own. If you own more than one, find and click the domain you are currently working to connect to your Carrot Site.

Step 3: Click on Manage DNS

Scroll down this page, and towards the bottom find the Manage DNS link. Click here:

Step 4: Edit the CNAME

Edit the CNAME record (under the Type column) that has “www” set under the Name column.

Change the Value to “carrot.com” as shown below. Change nothing else and click “Save”

Enter the below info exactly. Do not enter anything else, or it will not work.

Step 5: Add the Non-www redirect

Scroll down a bit, to the Forwarding box – Click “Add Forwarding”

Leave the drop-down box set to “http://” – type “www.yourdomainname.com”, replacing yourdomainname with your domain name, into the empty field – Set “Forward Type” to “Permanent (301)” – Click “Save” – All done!

This must be the domain you are setting up inside of Godaddy (with www. in front of it), not your *.carrot.com admin URL.

Getting the error “We can’t display your DNS information because your nameservers aren’t managed by us”?

Change your nameservers back to Default.

Step 6: Now, Let’s Attach That To Your Carrot Site

Sign into your Carrot Account page and click the green box to “add a custom domain.”

Enter your domain name on Step #1, then hit “Save Custom Domain” to save changes.

That’s it! Give it a few for the changes to update. If you have any trouble at all, hit up support via email or live chat for guidance. We will also gladly do it for ya if you provide Support with your Godaddy login info.
